More moderate income housing (duplexes) could soon be coming to three communities in Ellsworth County.

At Monday’s meeting, Ellsworth County aommissioners approved an application for a Moderate Income Housing (MIH) grant through the Kansas Housing Resource Program. If successful, one moderate income duplex would be built in Ellsworth, Wilson and Holyrood.

“Any good housing we can get in our communities is a positive,” said Justin Joiner of Joiner Construction of Ellinwood.

There is no cost to the county to apply for the grant. According to Stacie Schmidt, executive director of Ellsworth County Economic Development, a resolution will be prepared and signed by the commissioners.

• Commissioners signed paperwork associated with the continuing education of five EMS technicians, so they can attend classes. Nathan Florian, EMS director, said Ellsworth County EMS will receive a total of $9,267.85 to help with the training.

The next meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission will be at 9 a.m. Monday, July 25, at the county courthouse.
