Drowning victim recovered from Wilson Lake

During the morning of Sept. 5, divers recovered the body of Andrew M. Jauch, 52, Colorado, at Wilson Lake.

According to the Russell County Sheriff Fred J. Whitman, through investigation it was learned that the boat Jauch was riding in had broken down and that he had jumped into the water to cool off. Due to windy conditions, he was separated from the boat. The other occupants attempted to assist him, but their efforts were also hampered by the windy conditions.

On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4, the sheriff ’s office received a report of a male subject that had gone missing at approximately 3:50 p.m. while swimming in the lake. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Army Corps of Engineers, Russell County Rural Fire, Kansas Highway Patrol and Russell County EMS all responded to assist the sheriff ’s office with the search.
