Yearbook students at Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School returned home from regional journalism competition with a dozen awards.

The students will now compete at the Kansas Scholastic Press Association’s State Journalism Contest Saturday, May 2, at the University of Kansas. The regional event was Feb. 20 on the campus of Fort Hays State University.

Students and their awards by category were:

• Yearbook copy writing — Parker McGowan, 1st.

• Cutline writing — Parker McGowan, honorable mention.

• Yearbook sports writing — Mena Blanding, 1st.

• Yearbook sports writing — Braeden Sheridan, 2nd.

• Academics photography — Kelsey Ashbaugh, honorable mention.

• Sports photography — Jasmine Conley, 3rd.

• Student life photography — Greta Klein, 1st.

• Yearbook layout — Anthony Halbgewachs, 2nd.

• Yearbook layout — Greta Klein, honorable mention.
