uring a fourminute
Dspecial meeting late last Thursday afternoon, the Ellsworth City Council approved an ordinance amending the city’s zoning map to change the zoning of two tracts of land from C1 to R1.
According to Ellsworth City Administrator Dustin Stambaugh, the approval was taken to correct a zoning error.
The two tracts of land are Blake’s Addition, Lots 1 and 2, and the east half of the vacated in Block 26, the old medical clinic also known as 308 Kingsley, and Blake’s Addition, Lots 7 and 8 and the west half of the vacated alley in Block 26, also known as 00000 Blake Street and Third Street in Ellsworth.
According to information provided by the city, after the clinic at 308 Kingsley was shut down, the building was used as a church. The property was then sold as a residence and has since been used as such.
The current owners, Jacob and Jamaica Strode, asked the city to rezone the property from General Commercial (C-2) to Single-Family Dwelling District (R1). The city planning commission previously reviewed the request and recommended it for approval.
The property at 00000 Blake Street was part of the former medical clinic and is now a vacant lot, but is zoned as General Commercial (C2). The owner, Dr.
Ronald Whitmer, requested the lot be rezoned to Single Family Dwelling District (R1). This request was also previously reviewed by the city planning commission and recommended for approval.
Stambaugh noted the ordinance would be effective as soon as it is published in the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter.
