Bearcat boys drop two games

Ellsworth competes at Hoisington tournament

The Bearcat boys took on Hoisington Friday, Jan. 24, during the Winter Jam tournament with a disappointing outcome of 24-55 as the final score.

Braden Schulte, Hayden Rogers, and Avery Haxton put the ‘Cats on the board with 6 points in the first quarter. A time out was called with 30 seconds remaining. Hoisington put 21 points on the board leaving the ‘Cats behind by 15.

Haxton and Rogers continued to put points on the board for the Bearcats, scoring 5 more points in the second quarter. Hoisington scored another 14 points by half. A 30 second time out was called with 5:35 remaining on the clock. At half time, the score was 11-35.

Haxton again continued to find the basket in the third quarter, scoring 4 points. Trey Anderson contributed to the effort, putting 2 more points on the board for Ellsworth. Hoisington scored 7 points in the third.

Rogers and Schulte took over the final quarter, scoring a total of 7 points.

Fifteen game fouls hurt the Bearcats. Rogers was the only one to make a free throw in the fourth. The ‘Cats couldn’t catch up to Hoisington leaving the 24-55 final score.

Hoisington defeated LaCrosse, 54-33, to win the tournament.

Ellsworth’s Avery Haxton was named to the All-Tournament team.

Ellsworth vs. Ellinwood

Not much changed for the Bearcat boys except scoring more points in their Jan. 25 game against Ellinwood. The final score was 50 to 62 in favor of Ellinwood.

John Kyler and Avery Haxton put 6 points on the board for Ellsworth in the first quarter, leaving the ‘Cats behind by 8 points.

Braden Schulte took control the second quarter scoring 7 points followed by Haxton with 5 points and Rogers with 3. Despite the flurry of points, Ellsworth was still behind, 21-29, at the end of the first half.

Trey Anderson joined the scoring club by contributing 2 points in the 3rd quarter along with Haxton and Rogers. Kyler made a 3-point shot in the quarter.

Ellsworth scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, with Haxton scoring 12 of those.

The ‘Cats had a total of 16 fouls.
