December 8, 1881
B.D. Rice is hauling the sugar cane he purchased from the Sugar company to his cheese factory east of the city, and will use it as feed for his cattle.
The union temperance and law meeting held in the Presbyterian church in this city, on last Sunday evening was largely attended, and great interest manifested.
George M. Brown, of Bristol, R.I., writes that he is so highly pleased with the Reporter that he wants it for another year, and encloses the cash.
Wilson is filled with good people and we wish them all that prosperity and happiness they are entitled to.

It is reported that Will McMilian is going to Ohio to live.
Football is just now beginning to catch Ellsworth.
Mr. Rogers, the traveling man, is home with his family, this week.
Keating Jackson, of Kanopolis, was over this week for a load of goods.
The new court house is nearly roofed. Also the new school building is ready for occupancy.
Charley Barkow, the riverside plaster, has just finished another one of his first class jobs at the new school house. Charley always does that kind of work with the ever faithful Henry Pohl as tender.
Charley Panzer bought out Charley Falk this week, 80 acres well improved six miles north of Ellsworth.

After Christmas comes the rainy weather. One of those beautiful gold handled silk umbrellas at Kesler’s would make a very acceptable Christmas present.
Fred Curry and John Cadwell returned last night from Roswell, New Mexico, with ten carloads of cows and calves belonging to John.
On Thanksgiving Day at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Rolfs of Lorraine, celebrated the marriage of Anna Mae Rolfs to Benjamin R. Kruse. Miss Anna is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rolfs and has lived all her life in this community.
A very pretty wedding took place Wednesday afternoon, November 29, at 3 o’clock at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, when Rev. Schmidt united in marriage Miss Louise Petermann and Mr. Max Welk, in the presence of a few friends and the immediate relatives.
Sterling silver tea spoons at $5 to $7 a set at Kesler’s.

With the Hoisington defeat behind them, the Bearcats smashed to another victory, winning over the Lincoln Leopards by a score of 32-0. Last Thursday, Thanksgiving, it was a warm day and although the field was muddy it did not stop the Bearcats from plunging through the Leopards’ line.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Warta of Kanopolis on Thursday, November 25, 1941, at the Ellsworth hospital.
Mrs. Richard Grubb and two sons were injured last Friday evening at 9 o’clock when they were struck and run over by a model A Ford coupe driven by Melvin Reutz. The accident occurred when Mrs. Grubb, holding a child by each hand, was walking west across the intersection from the old Kolachny building on lower Douglas avenue to the Standard Oil service corner.

Lucky Ellsworth Shoppers Jackpot Day received $102 and $62 Tuesday afternoon in the drawing. Amanda Voeltz was at J O Supermarket and received the $102 first award and R.E. Ulrickson was in O’Donnell’s where he received the $62 second prize. Both were from Ellsworth. Mrs. Crago Goodwin in Geneseo missed the $40 third prize.
Ellsworth’s Christmas lights were turned on Saturday evening following a short ceremony in front of City Hall at which the Rev. Robert Grout gave a short talk on Christmas and offered a prayer and Boy Scouts sang a few carols. The ceremony was short because of the cold Saturday evening.
Virgil Ranker of Ellsworth has received a letter in cross county track at St. John’s College, Winfield. Vern Schepmann, Bushton, received a letter in soccer.

Ellsworth County residents have contributed more than $1,000 to the Tim Null family, whose house was gutted by fire early last week. Kanopolis State Bank is still accepting donations for the Nulls, and an additional fund has been set up at Northern Natural where Tim is employed.
Jana M. Doubrava and Donald H. Thomas exchanged marriage vows Saturday, November 21, 1981 in a 6 o’clock wedding at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Elmer A. Feddersen officiating. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Steve Doubrava Jr., Ellsworth; and Mr. and Mrs. James L. Thomas, Victoria.
The EHS “Pops” strolled through stores singing Christmas Carols Monday night. The group is directed by David Schneider.
EHS seniors Stacey Zavesky and Kale Gaston were named to the “Top 20” players in northwest Kansas by the Salina Journal in the Journal’s 1981-82 basketball preview.
Patrons of the Butterfield Express, a Wilson tavern, were forced to evacuate the building following two bomb threats which were phoned in fifteen minutes apart on Saturday evening, November 30.

Holm Motor Co. of Ellsworth was the successful bidder on a new 66 passenger bus at Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth-Kanopolis USD 327 Board of Education.
Vera Hoffman, 86, Ellsworth, escaped injury when her auto plunged through the front window of Boot’s Plant & Flower Center, 219 N. Douglas, according to Harold Hanson, Ellsworth city police chief. Hoffman was intending to park her car when her foot apparently slipped from the brake and hit the accelerator, Hanson said.
Two men are in custody in the Ellsworth County Jail for robbing the Lorraine State Bank, County Attorney Roger Peterson said Tuesday. Jerry E. Michels, 30, and Jack Mitcheson, 33, have been charged in District Court with “feloniously and willfully taking property, money, from the presence of Susan Schaefer by the threat of bodily harm to the person of Susan Schaefer while armed with a deadly weapon, a hand gun.

Player of the week: It’s a lot easier to narrow down the choices when there’s only one game to cover, but that doesn’t mean this guy isn’t going to give his competition a run for the money this season.
Matthew Kohls scored six straight points on three consecutive inbound seals for Kanopolis against Lyons Nov. 26. This guy can really hustle up and down the court. He ended the game with a team high 16 points.
