102 YEARS AGO Jan. 20, 1921
A dandy good birthday surprise party was given Wednesday evening, Jan.
12, 1921, in honor of Mr. Paul Kejr, it being his 21st.
Floyd Wilson and wife had a fine baby daughter come to their house Friday of this week. Mrs.
Wilson’s mother is with her and Aunty Grove keeps a watchful eye on the new arrival.
Miss Olive Lowry of Hartford, Ark., is the new printer at the World office.
Another good birthday surprise party was given Sunday evening, Jan. 16, 1921, in honor of Miss Meta Heinze, it being her 20th birthday.
Joe J. Zvolanek of Black Wolf has his new house completed.
Last Saturday was the warmest day this winter.
It was 64 in the shade.
Lu Stehno has been elected manager of the Farmers Union Store.
John and Paul Weber were here Wednesday of last week moving some of the office records to the main office of Weber & Co., Salina.
Announcements have been received here of the birth to Mr. and Mrs.
M.F. Stone, Junction City, of an 8 an one-half pound boy on Jan. 3. He has been named Leone Oriane.
Mrs. Fred Heinze has bought the old Donmyer ranch north of Salina. It consists of over a section of land and the consideration was $60,000.
C.M. Turner is now occupying the old Martin Lukes place which he is using for living quarters and also for a shop for his auto top repairing business.
The Wilson City basketball team went to Bunker Hill last Saturday night and played the latter’s city team, beating them by a score of 22-19.
The members of the Wilson team were Ed and Henry Stoppel, Henry and Bill Anschutz and Dewey Murdock.
92 YEARS AGO Jan. 21, 1931
Charles Klusener of the Nicholas area had the misfortune to lose his home by fire last Thursday afternoon.
Abe Heard is able to be up and around his home.
Several weeks ago he fell out of a tree and sustained serious injuries.
He was chasing chickens out of the tree and a limb broke, causing him to fall. We had several foggy mornings last week and Saturday was very foggy.
At times a misty rain fell and about 6 o’clock a heavy shower of rain fell for some time. Sunday was cloudy with a cold, stiff northwest wind blowing.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Flanders, Salina, have given the name Harold Edward to their son born Jan. 10 at Asbury Hospital. Mrs. Flanders was formerly Miss Edith Heel, who is very well known here.
We understand that the Levitt Ranch was sold last week, Will Zvolanek buying the home place and E.W.
Bruning and H.F. Lange buying the half-section of pasture.
Frank Diven will start work tomorrow as one of the sales clerks at Jackson & Buehlers store.
Ed Kleinschmidt, city engineer with the assistance of Ed Kluber, spent last week painting the entire inside of the Electric Light Plant.
Everything about the plant is kept as neat and clean as a pin, and now that it has been painted, it will look as nice inside as any plant in the state.
Miss Margaret Ney has purchased, and will install as soon as it arrives, a new Crouignole Wave Machine for use in her beauty shoppe. She says she can fix anyone’s hair now so that it will look wavy and beautiful.
Anton F. Soukup has been appointed road overseer of the east half of Wilson Township by the township board and is already working at his job.
George Eslinger and son Dick have figured out a good way to thresh feterita, kaffir, etc. They have fastened a buzz saw beside the feeder box on their combine, the heads fall in the machine and they toss the bundles aside.
67 YEARS AGO Jan. 26, 1956
Three Thill brothers who live one mile south of Dubuque were high bidders on the 1,360-acre Smith ranch that sold Tuesday afternoon. The brothers bid $87,000 for the combined tracts.
Owners were heirs of the estate of H.B. Smith.
Mrs. Frances Jirak, a longtime resident of the Wilson community, passed away at Salem Memorial Hospital, Salem, Ore., at the age of 88 years on Friday, Jan.

Miss Arlene Milberger, student nurse at Kansas City, Mo., has been chosen from the junior class of 1956 to attend the National Student Nurses Association Convention to be held in Chicago, Ill., in May.
Denton Doran, who has been overseas in Japan for the past two years, is on his way to the States.
Charles Stoppel is confined to his home with a leg injury he received while hauling wheat on his farm land near Smith Center. He is able to be about with the aid of crutches.
Mrs. Raymond Baker, Miss Wray Ann Baker and Mrs. E.G. Coffey attended the wedding of Miss Ruth Gamber and Karl Anderson in Salina Saturday.

Miss Elaine Peterka was honored guest at a miscellaneous shower given Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. by Mrs. Francis Olds at the Roy Shaw residence.

Galen Hubbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hubbs, has been named a member of the editorial staff of the Goodland Daily News.

Bailey and family are new Wilson residents. He is the new junior ranger at Lake Wilson, filling a vacancy left by Jack Chilcotte who went to Perry Reservoir.
Gilbert Staudinger died at Houston, Texas, Tuesday night from injuries received in an explosion at the factory where he worked.
Mrs. Larry Neaderhiser was the honoree at a bridal shower Sunday afternoon in the social room of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dorrance. Hostesses were Mrs. Joe Bohnen and Mrs. Bob Kaps.
47 YEARS AGO Jan. 22, 1976
A rural water district for Ellsworth, Lincoln and Russell counties is a step closer to reality as a result of a feasibility study meeting in Wilson with more than 50 persons attending and voicing their interests in the proposed district.
The City of Ellsworth will have a new industry within the year. Cashco Company officials said negotiations with Chickasha Mobile Home officials are complete and Cashco will move its pipeline valve and regulator manufacturing plant to the space at Ellsworth vacated last year by Chickasha.
David J. Miller was honored on his 80th birthday at his home Thursday evening.
Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Houska, Mrs. Millie Heinze, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Steinle and Mrs. David Miller.
B & D Construction, Inc., Dorrance, has been honored for its outstanding safety record during 1975, going accident-free throughout the year.
Mrs. Ernest Sebesta visited Joe Sebesta, Ellsworth, on Tuesday to help celebrate his 87th birthday.
The Wilson Dragons bowed to the Lucas Demons last Tuesday, 67-61. Roger Nondorf scored 21 points followed by Les Vopat with 15.

Dale Stinson were among nearly 800 who attended the banquet and midwinter rally of Kansas Lions in Salina Saturday evening.
Galen Hubbs visited with his parents and grandmother at Dorrance last Tuesday en route to Dodge City from a twoday Wheat Quality Council meeting and banquet in Manhattan.
