The German Lutheran membership of this place are talking of building a parsonage for their pastor.
Don’t forget the drawing for the $25 hat at Mrs. H.S. Carbart’s Millinery Store Saturday, May 27. Drawing to be held at 2 p.m.
The Farmers Elevator has had a new addition built to their office. This gives Vinc and his helpers more room to handle the big business which they daily transact at this place.
Frank Olds sold an 83 Overland to Frank Honomichl last Friday. Miss Agness Hanzlicek was the fortunate one and won the piano that was given away at F.R. Gregor’s Store.

1936
John Vopat, who farms the Fred Cross place south of town, suffered a painful accident to his right hand and arm Monday when he got his hand caught in the lister he was operating. His arm was broken at the wrist and the flesh torn from it. He was brought to town by Fred Cross, who was driving the tractor, where his wounds were dressed at the Wilson hospital.
Edith Sula and Paula Turgeon will do two numbers in the Mary Ellen Rathbun Dance Revue at the Masonic Temple in Salina June 5.
Specials at Farmer’s Store: Brooms, 39 cents each; 2 1/2 pound pail of jelly for 25 cents; fresh tomatoes, 3 pounds for 25 cents; Oxydol, 19 cents a box and get a bottle of furniture polish for 1 cent; pancake flour (whole wheat), 9 cents; and red pitted cherries, No. 2 tin, 15 cents or 2 for 25 cents.

Helen Zeman and Gladys Vanek, who are taking nurses’ training in Salina, were up over the weekend visiting home folks.

Valedictorian of the 1961 Wilson High School graduating class was Carla Bouska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bouska. Salutatorian was Sharon L. Steinle, daughter of Mrs. Helen Steinle.
A new and attractive addition to main street has been made with the installation of an aluminum awning to the front of Miller’s Market.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thielen, Denver, are the proud parents of a son, born Sunday, May 28. The Thielens have three other boys and one girl.
Joe Macek has been appointed chairman of the wood committee for the Harvest Festival. The barbecue pit will be on Paul Brauer’s lot, east of Paul Kejr’s shop.

Teresa Duryee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duryee, Dorrance, graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, Iowa, and will be spending six weeks on the mission field in Orem, Utah, with Rev. and Mrs. Mike Bardons.
Bob Malir presented the American Legion Citizenship award to Nancy Malir, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Malir. The award was presented during the junior high graduation exercises.
The Wilson Merchants, enduring three days of softball which included 18 total games and rain enough to provide for a soggy field, took first place Sunday, May 23, at the second annual men’s slowpitch softball tournament at Ellsworth.
John Dolezal and Mark Shaw escaped with minor scratches May 22, when their car ran off a rainsoaked highway near Wilson and flipped over, landing on its top.
Raymond and Mary Homeier who, along with their two children, evacuated their home only minutes before it was rocked by an explosion last spring, have filed a $125,000 suit against the Wilson Gas Service Company.

Peppy Joe Vocasek was elected president of the Wilson Chamber of Commerce at their meeting May 12. Joyce Miller was elected vice president.
Gilbert Stadelman, Wilson High School, USD 328, and Wray Ann Miller, Ellsworth Elementary School, USD 327, were among the teachers honored by the University of Kansas School of Education this spring for lifetime service to their profession.

RESIGNATIONS
During a reconvened meeting Monday evening at the district office in Lorraine, members of the USD 328 Board of Education accepted the resignations of four district staff members. They are Karen Metz, Terry Fuller, Deb Gould and Jennifer Meitler. The board also approved contracts for art teacher Kristen Slechta and elementary teachers Jana Copp, Leigh Hendrix and Amy Klug.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the USD 328 Board of Education will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the district office in Lorraine.

AWARD
Melissa Ptacek, a senior at Wilson High School, has received the Dale Dennis Excellence in Education award sponsored by United School Administration and Jostens of Kansas.
Leland Francis, principal announced that Melissa has demonstrated the characteristics necessary to receive this annual award given in honor of one of Kansas’ educational leaders. Winners of this award throughout Kansas high schools are these individuals who have displayed the citizenship, community and school service, scholarship and common sense characteristics that make them a quality person.
The Dale M. Dennis Excellence in Education Award was established in 1996.

REPAIR BROKEN
COMPUTERS
During the school year a request went out to the Wilson community for old, non-working computers. The machines were dismantled and studied by several computer technology students. These students, nicknamed for famous computer inventors, were senior Doug Ptacek, better known in the Computer Technology classroom as Bill Gates, sophomore Jason Smith, better known as Steve Wozniak and Lucas Everett, better known as Steve Jobs. The computer “techies” were able to build several working computers from the many non-working machines. Doug “Bill”, Jason “The Woz” and Lucas “Steve” would especially like to thank Mr. Mike Peschka for the nonfunctioning computers that he gave the students. These students were able to make several nice machines from the computers that he donated. Mrs. Ward, Computer Technology instructor, would also like to thank everyone who donated machines. These old machines gave these students practical, “hands on” experience in computer repair.

WHS SENIORS TAKE
TRIP OF LIFETIME
TO COLORADO
Very early Saturday, May 11, the WHS seniors left on their senior sneak. This trip has been long awaited by the seniors but the time has finally arrived. With Keith Roush driving the school bus, the group set out for Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado. The seniors will be visiting many places like the Six Flags Theme Park and the Denver Art Museum, as well as the Museum of Natural History, The Air Force Academy, the Royal Gage Bridge and Park, Seven Falls, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the Garden of the Gods Park, Sly Sox Baseball and Historic Sixteenth Street in Denver.
The adult sponsors accompanying the group are Elaine Vopat, Reta Bushell, Dale Homeier and Mr. Francis. The seniors hope to have a fun and educational trip. The group plans to return on May 15.
