Four teachers selected for USD 112 Hall of Fame
WILSON — Four longtime teachers were chosen Monday night to be inducted into the USD 112 Hall of Fame during the October meeting of Central Plains USD 112 board of education at Wilson School.
The four are:
• Connie Potts, who taught for USD 354 and USD 112 for more than 30 years.
• Gary Bittner, who taught and coached for USD 354 and USD 112 for more than 30 years.
• Denise Kempke, who taught for USD 354 adn USD 112 for more than 30 years.
• Debbie Gould, who taught a total of 25 years — 21 of those years at Wilson High School.
Induction ceremonies are being planned at both ends of the district.
In other business:
• Superintendent Bill Lowry announced a special meeting of the USD 112 board of education will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the district office in Claflin. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss strategic planning.
• The first reading of 36 board policy updates was completed by Lowry. The policies updates deal with a wide range of topics, including performance based credit to health services for students, goals and objectives, substitute teachers, online learning opportunities and therapy dogs.
“That’s the most I’ve ever seen,” Lowry said.
The changes are necessary to keep the district in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Lowry will bring the updates back before the board at the Nov. 14 meeting for approval.
• A fundraising request from the Central Plains Junior-Senior High School FFA was approved. The chapter will work with Seitz Fundraising to sell fruit, speciality meats and cookie dough from Oct. 4 through Nov. 4.
• No action was taken after two executive sessions totalling 23 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel (the superintendent evaluation).
• Approval was given to a contract with classified staff.
• On the agenda during the Nov. 14 board meeting will be the policy updates and the district audit report.
The next meeting of the Central Plains USD 112 board of education will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Central Plains Junior-Senior High School cafeteria in Claflin.
