Grant to provide broadband to low-income households
Wilson Communications to use federal COVID money for project
The SPARK Task force has awarded Wilson Communications a grant to provide low-income households in the Wilson Communications service area with improved access to broadband internet services, assisting area residents with necessary emergency financial relief for services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Strengthening People and Revitalizing Kansas (SPARK) Task Force approved programs for economic development and connectivity throughout the state as part of the Federal CARES act funding.
“When this grant program was initially announced by the State of Kansas, we saw it as a great opportunity to help serve the customers in our service area. What a great way to help families not only gain reliable access to broadband services, but also have the option to provide an end-user device to facilitate that access. COVID19 has brought many new challenges, so it is nice to see a positive outcome,” said Sarah Dlabal, Wilson Communications controller.
Wilson Communications will provide free broadband internet service at the 25Mbps down and 10Mbps up service level to qualifying households, through June 2021.
To qualify for this program, households must be in the Wilson Communications service area with a fiber optic connection and be eligible for the low-income Lifeline telecommunications program or the National School Lunch Program.
Eligible households will also receive a free Lenovo Chromebook Hybrid Tablet to keep, free Wi-Fi router rental, and free installation. The free service offers includes the Lifeline broadband program discount of $9.25 per month.
This offer is made possible through the SPARK grant program and therefore participants must be accepted to the program prior to December 30, 2020. Participation is limited to the first 34 applicants.
Participants are subject to all standard Wilson Communications terms and conditions as found at http://www.wilsoncommunications.us/support/consumerinfo.php
