Great Bend woman dies in Ellsworth County crash

A 40-year-old Great Bend woman was killed and two others injured June 30 in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 in Ellsworth County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at 2:09 p.m., Danielle Dee Hoskins of Great Bend was driving west in the right lane on I-70 in a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. At the same time, Robert L. Mueller of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was driving west in the left lane in a 2014 Volvo semi-truck.

At milemarker 223.1, one-quarter mile west of K-156 Highway, Hoskins went to cross the median at a crossover and the Mueller semi hit Hoskins on the driver’s side. Both vehicles came to rest on the median.

Hoskins, who was wearing a seat belt, died in the accident. Her two passengers, Grace Dee Hoskins, 17, Great Bend, was thought to have minor injuries and was transported to Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth, where she treated and released.

A second passenger in the Hospkins vehicle, Shay Hoskins, 13, Great Bend, was thought to have serious injuries and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center. No information was available. She was wearing a seat belt.

Mueller was not injured in the accident. He was also wearing a seat belt.
