LORRAINE — Year-end bonuses will come early for members of the Lorraine Fire Department. Michael Boyer, Lorraine City clerk, said at the Lorraine City Council’s Nov. 19 meeting, Joe Travnichek, fire chief, requested early approval of year-end bonuses so he would have time to deliver them to members of the fire department. The council approved the request, with council member Cassie Vedder abstaining because she has a family member serving on the department.

In other business:

• Approval was given to order a load of AB-3 gravel from Webb Excavating of Lyons for an estimated cost of $700.

• Kim Travnichek of Lorraine said over 30 children attended the Spook Fest on Main Street Halloween night. The event was conducted by a group calling themselves Moms of Lorraine.

Travnichek said Moms of Lorraine and the First Baptist Church of Lorraine are sponsoring a Children’s Christmas Party at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the basement of the First Baptist Church in Lorraine. Santa Claus will be available to visit with the children and refreshments and cookies will be served. All are invited to attend.

• Pastor Zach Ullom announced that George Redington, former pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lorraine, has passed away and that a memorial gathering is scheduled for Nov. 19 at the church.

• Larry Klug, maintenance supervisor, discussed replacing two stop signs on Wichita Avenue and Main Street. Chief Travnichek suggested he talk to the City of Ellsworth to see if Lorraine could purchase the signs under their contract.
