Kanopolis approves 2023 city budget
Special to the I-R
The Kanopolis City Council approved the city’s 2023 budget Monday during a special meeting at Kanopolis City Hall.
City clerk Debbie Kralike said the budget increased from $874,083 in 2022 to $1,032,718 in 2023.
Before the approval, Craig Dassow from Long & Associates gave a summary of the budget authority and schedule of transfers. He said the council will be able to stop transferring the money from the sewer fund to the sewer revolving loan at the end of 2023 because it will be paid off in 2024.
The council decided not to increase the city’s revenue neutral rate (RNR) for the 2023 budget.

• Mayor Anthony Hopkins said that Drinking Water Protection Program needs a signed contract. That will allow the City of Kanopolis to receive grant money to pay the farmers who will use the four-year program. If the state does not renew the program after four years, the city may have to fund it.
