Kanopolis City Hall is closed to public

KANOPOLIS — Kanopolis city hall will be closed to the public effective immediately as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus. That was the decision made by the Kanopolis City Council March 18 during a special meeting.

Mayor Anthony Hopkins said he received a call from Ellsworth County Health Supervisor Kerianne Ehrlich suggesting the doors to city hall be closed to the public.

“I know we don’t get much foot traffic here, but that’s what they suggested, so I wanted to run that by you guys,” he said. “My thought is that we probably should heed that advice.”

A sign will be posted on the front door of city hall informing the public. People needing to do business there are asked to call city clerk Debbie Kralik or use the drive-thru window.

In other business:

• Approval was given to spend no more than $2,700 to purchase a new grapple fork for the city Bobcat from Stillwell Sales in Beloit.

• Approval was given to spend up to $6,000 to purchase a 2007 Chevrolet two-wheel-drive pickup truck from Truck Sales in Brookville.
