KANOPOLIS LAKE — “Wow, what a day,” public service administrator of Kanopolis State Park Wendy Bowles said of the most recent trail cleanup day, Saturday Feb. 22, at Kanopolis Lake.

Volunteers met at Mushroom State Park at 9 a.m. to register and get their assignments.

Twenty-nine volunteers, three full-time employees, and one AmeriCorp member showed up to work on the trails. This totaled 253.5 man hours, with 221.5 volunteer hours, 24 full-time employee hours, and eight AmeriCorps hours.

“We completed all of the work I had lined out, plus two other projects that were backup items: Bowles said.

The work included weed-eating one mile of trail, trimming two miles of trees and removing deadfall and cut cedar trees. Six miles of trail were flagged and trash picked up, along with three water crossing repaired. Cleanup was completed by 3 p.m.

Future trail cleanup days will be announced soon.

“We are getting very close to having the trails ready to open,” Bowles said.
