Local students win Hansen Foundation grants

By

Ellsworth High School senior Hayden Rogers is among 10 students to receive Hansen Leader of Tomorrow scholarships.

The college awards are for $10,000 and may be renewed for three additional years, as long as Rogers maintains a 3.00 or better grade point average.

Also receiving scholarships from the Logan-based Hansen Foundation are:

Ellsworth seniors Cody Bourbon and Jordyn Coonrod and Wilson senior Brandalyn Thyfault.

The trio was among 50 scholarship winners to receive $6,500, which also is renewable for three additional years, as long as participants maintain their grade point averages.

In all, the foundation awarded grants to 272 seniors from 59 northwest Kansas schools in its 45th annual scholarship competition.

In addition, the Hansen Foundation also presented 20 scholarships to Kansas community or technical college transfer students who plan to continue their educations at a Kansas fouryear college or university.

In selecting award winners, the scholarship committee considered proficiency in verbal and writing skills. Other important factors are academic records, test scores and community service.
