Man charged in connection with Kanopolis Corner Store break-in
KANOPOLIS — The Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals in connection with the Dec. 3 break-in at the Kanopolis Corner Store in Kanopolis.
According to the Ellsworth County Clerk of the District Court’s office, Jacob Rives, 19, of Rozell, has been charged with one felony count of burglary of a building and one felony count of contributing to a child’s misconduct. He has entered a plea of no contest in Ellsworth County District Court. An April 16 court date has been scheduled in the case.
Bradley Steen of Ellsworth is Rives’ attorney.
Ellsworth County Sheriff Murray Marston said in addition to Rives, a juvenile was also arrested. He said the investigation is ongoing as there may be other individuals involved. Marston also said some of the items taken have been recovered.
“The end game is to catch the people who committed this crime and bring them to justice,” he said.
In a previous interview with the Independent-Reporter, Marston said the forced entry into the building took place sometime after the business closed Dec. 3. It was discovered the next morning, Dec. 4. Numerous items were taken, but no dollar amount was released.
