Ryan Stoppel to step down from the Wilson City Council
WILSON — Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council ended with unexpected news.
First-term council member Ryan Stoppel announced that the Dec. 4 council meeting will be his last as he and his family are moving out of town.
“It has been a joy working with everybody,” Stoppel said.
Mike Peschka, Wilson mayor, thanked Stoppel for his service and said he was a great council member.
Peschka said he would appoint someone to the council seat in December.

No action was taken after a 20 minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel (compensation).
Approval was given to modify the city’s employee health and dental insurance coverage by approving a $400 cap or 90 percent, whichever is lower, of the actual cost of the reimbursement.
The modification becomes effective Jan. 1, 2021.
Josh Tipton, Wilson Police Chief and head of the city’s board of health, discussed several properties that are in violation of city ordinances. He said nothing has been done by the owner of the property at 305 24th Street to rectify the violations. He is waiting for the owner of the property at 308 26th Street to return from Texas.
Wilson City Clerk Susan Kriley said the fall/winter hours at the city burn pile are from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays only.
Peschka said he is considering asking the city compliance officer to respond to stray-dog-running-at-large calls to free up Tipton.
Currently, the dogs are taken to Russell and impounded.
The next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at city hall.
