Staff at ECF receive Livesaver Award
SPECIAL TO THE I-R
Dr. Paige Dodson was at Ellsworth Correctional Facility May 18 to honor 11 staff members for their heroic efforts performed March 15 at the prison.
Specifically, the team of correctional officers and nurses administered CPR and other lifesaving measures to a resident at ECF.
Staff members recognized were William Schumacher, Cody Hlad, Nanci Base, Susan Tyson, Bo Snider, Craig Wendlandt, Steven Larson, Tyler Goss, Nathan Prieto, Christopher Miller and Dalton Hoffman.
“The Lifesaver Award is modeled after the American Heart Association and American Red Cross Award recognizing successful out-of-hospital cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation,” Dodson said. “Survival rates with intact cognitive function are typically low — less than 10 percent or less. But we know that when these codes are successful, it’s because bystanders — often untrained, unpracticed and with resources much different than those it a hospital setting — act quickly and skillfully.”
Dodson said the award was presented to team members who have demonstrated exceptional skill, courage and dedication in successfully performing CPR. The award recognizes their outstanding efforts in saving lives and making a profound impact on the well-being of others during critical situations outside the hospital setting.
“Through their prompt recognition of the need for immediate intervention, they have exemplified the highest level of compassion, teamwork and professionalism,” Dodson said. “The Lifesaver Award acknowledges the invaluable contributions of these exceptional individuals who embody the principles of preparedness, knowledge and selflessness, while showcasing their commitment to the well-being and safety of others. Their actions have demonstrated that being equipped with CPR skills can truly make a difference between life and death in critical moments.
“This prestigious award serves as a symbol of our deep appreciation and gratitude for their heroic actions. Their dedication, expertise and selflessness have exemplified the highest standards of excellence and have made a lasting positive impact on the lives of others.”
