Barton students earn honors

Almost two dozen students from Ellsworth County and the area have been named to honors rolls at Barton Community College at Great Bend.

Included in the 239 students named 239 students to the President’s List for the fall 2019 semester:

Ellsworth — Dakota Castor, Kolby Davis and Cameron Viohl.

Kanopolis — Sierra Kraatz and Harley Massaro.

Wilson — Kaleb Bachman, Dawson Davis and Kassie Sheridan.

Claflin — Paxton Hammeke.

Geneseo — Hayley Chamberlain.

Included in the 327 students named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2019 semester:

Ellsworth — Gregory Cox, Carl Deck, Christopher Fitzgerald, Trevar Johnson, Austin Lemonds, Acacia Mai, Jenna Sinnott and Jamaal Summers.

Claflin — Katie Gunder.

Geneseo — Peyton Harvey.

Holyrood — Kayla Hass.

Spachek wins D.C. adventure

Jonathan Spachek, Ellsworth High School junior, son of Kurt and Linda Spachek, will receive a $250 college scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. through the Western Cooperative Electric youth contest program.

Spachek competed against other high school juniors in Western’s service territory. The winners were selected based off their combined scores in three areas: essay writing, personal interview, and electric cooperative knowledge.

Spachek and Ethan Reever, Otis-Bison High School, son of TJ and Kristi Reever, are the top two qualifying entrants in this year’s contest.

Spachek and Reever will represent Western at the nation’s capital from June 18-25. These students will have the opportunity to meet their U.S. representatives and senators, tour the White House, and visit many monuments, memorials and museums.
