Thyfault receives national scholarship

Wilson High School student Brandalyn Thyfault is one of 548 students nationwide and only seven in Kansas to receive a scholarship for $10,000 from the Horatio Alger Association. Over 35,000 students applied for the scholarship nationwide. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need.

Ellsworth students offered awards

Five Ellsworth students have been selected by the Barton Community College Foundation to receive scholarships: Christopher Fitzgerald, Yvonne Robbins Entrepreneur & Leadership Scholarship; Gabrielle Herzog, BEST Scholarship; Ann Ridinger, Amos Bayer Memorial Scholarship; Jenna Sinnott, Grace Rowden Scholarship; and Shelbey Talbott, Maloy and Pauline Breitenbach Allied Health Scholarship.

Fort Hays recognizes students

Local and area students are among the 1,596 students named to the Deans Honor Roll for the fall 2019 semester by deans at Fort Hays State University. Students must have a grade point average of not less than 3.60 out of 4 to qualify. Ellsworth: Jeanae Dayle Brungardt is a sophomore majoring in organizational leadership. Jessie E. Graves is a junior majoring in communication sciences and disorders. Jenna Elizabeth Haase is a sophomore majoring in education. Jesse Robert Mitchell-Rodriguez is a senior majoring in education. Marissa Ann Pruitt is a freshman majoring in business. Bransen B. Schulte is a freshman majoring in physics. Shianne Paisley Svaty is a freshman majoring in education. Wilson: Lilly Brae Duncan is a sophomore majoring in biology. Bushton: Alanna Marie Burris is majoring in elementary education. Dorrance: Patrick Michael Kepka is a senior majoring in agriculture. Brookville: Sydney Suzanne Omli is a junior majoring in elementary education.
