Update given on Wilson Czech Opera House
WILSON — Ken and Marcie Beneda, board members of the Wilson Czech Opera House Corporation, gave an update on the ongoing renovation of the structure into an open air theater.
The update came during Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council. Marcie Beneda said
Marcie Beneda said opera house officials have two projects that are needed to remove the fence surrounding the site due to safety concerns.
The first is the stabilization of the interior walls which will be done by Jon Pancost of Blue Stem Quarry Stone Works this spring.
The second is the steel work to make the structure more physically sound. Beneda said a drawing and bid was received from Maico, Inc. of Ellsworth for this work.
“It’s going to be three beams going north and south,” said Ken Beneda. “And each corner will have a square. So that will make that building more stronger.”
Marcie Beneda said brick sales have picked up and opera house officials will continue to work on this along with other donations and grant money to get more accomplished.
“We want that fence down,” Marcie Beneda said. “I think it will make the whole block look really nice.”
