The question of bussing Wilson students to Ellsworth was discussed during Monday night’s meeting of the Eillsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School Board.

“To my knowledge, we’re not sending any busses anywhere,” board member Jake Svaty said.

Svaty was one of several board members who said there is some confusion as to whether students from Wilson Jr./Sr. High School will have the option to be bussed to Ellsworth if they opt to attend school in USD 327 during the 2023-24 school year.

WJSHS is slated to close at the conclusion of the current school year. Wilson students will have the option to be bussed to Claflin Jr./ Sr. High School, or they may apply for out-of-district student status in another district.

“I think there is a myth that we would be providing transportation, and that has never been the intention,” USD 327 Superintendent Deena Hilbig said.

The district currently transports students from Geneseo to schools in Ellsworth and Kanopolis. It also transports students between Ellsworth Elementary School and Kanopolis Middle School.

“Out-of-district means you have permission to attend our centers, but you provide your own transportation,” Hilbig said.
