Wilson animal wavier request dies for lack of a council motion
WILSON — At Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council, a request for an animal wavier by David Criswell of Kansas Foods, LLC and developer of Mountains on the Prairie and Kansas Mountain Goats, for 720 16th St., died for lack of a motion.
Specifically, Criswell sought a wavier to the current city guideline maximum limit of two goats per address. He requested up to 25 Nigerian Dwarf goats at the address, which is at the west edge of Wilson.
In other business:
• During an inoperable vehicle hearing for 2309 Ave. G and 2316 Ave. G conducted immediately before the regular council meeting, a motion was approved to have council member Jeff Keith, Wilson Police Chief Josh Tipton or Wilson Police Officer Jonathan Lawrence stop by the owner’s home this week to see if the vehicles in question operate and move. If so, at the May 1 council meeting, those vehicles will be cleared.
• Approval was given to finish the rehabilitation work at 406 29th St. by having a short bid process on April 25, with the Housing Board to select a contractor and move forward. All costs will be paid by the state.
• Approval was given to a refuse request for 514 28th St. for the summer and fall.
• Approval was given to a 90-day probation period for Billy Moore as a new Wilson Fire Department volunteer firefighter.
• Approval was given to Ordinance 874, changing the size regulations of debris accepted at the Wilson burn pile.
Trees up to 8 inches in diameter will now be accepted at the burn pile, as will limbs for the wood pile up to 48 inches long.
• Approval was given to hire the following applicants for seasonal laborers: Cody Crawford for mainly city cemetery work at $10.50 per hour, Noah Crawford at $10 per hour and Teagan Thrasher at $10 per hour, however, Thrasher will not be allowed to drive city equipment.
• Approval was given to order one pair of bunker boots from Wise Fire and Safety Equipment at a cost of $393.16.
• After a five-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel (an independent contractor), the council approved to immediately terminate the services of Jennifer Keller as the city compliance officer.
• The next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at city hall.
