Wilson approves new vehicle
WILSON — Two special meetings were conducted Aug. 30 by the Wilson City Council. The first concerned a new vehicle for the Wilson Police Department. The second was for five appeal hearings on abandoned/ vacant properties pertaining to Ordinance 854.
Mayor Mike Peschka said he talked to the fleet manager of the Kansas Highway Patrol vehicle program. The 2015 patrol vehicle the WPD currently uses has 87,000 miles on it and has some mechanical issues.
Peschka said a temporary invoice was earmarked for a 2020 Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicle with 49,433 miles on it, if the council chose to buy a vehicle as a replacement. The cost of the vehicle is $29,600. Peschka said there would also be an additional fee of between $3,500$4,000 to transfer equipment out of the old patrol car into the new one.
“I think this is an opportunity,” he said. “I would recommend we go with the Kansas Highway Patrol vehicle.”
After a brief discussion, the council approved purchasing the Durango as presented.
During the second special meeting, the council allowed the five property owners 15 minutes for each appeal. The council decided on the appeals as follows:
• 205 25th Street — The council approved an exception to Ordinance 854 for that property.
• 2418 Ave. E — The council approved an exception to Ordinance 854.
• 408 31st Street — The council approved an exception to Ordinance 854.
• 2728 Ave. E — The council approved an exception to Ordinance 854.
