O’Hare appointed as new city judge
WILSON — The Lincoln County attorney is the new city judge for the City of Wilson.
At Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council, Jennifer O’Hare was appointed city judge as of June 1. That appointment came after a five minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel (the city judge vacancy).
Mayor Mike Peschka said Darrell Thrasher, who had served as city judge since August 1991, presented a letter to him announcing his retirement effective May 31.
O’Hare will be given a salary of $260 per month. In other business:
• Approval was given to shoot fireworks in the city limits from 5 p.m. Friday, July 3 to midnight, Saturday, July 4. Approval is subject to whether a county-wide burn ban is in effect at that time.
• After a five minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel (public compliance officer job), approval was given to hire Jeff Keith as Wilson’s public compliance officer. He will be paid $100 per month as contact labor.
• City superintendent Marty Prester said he tentatively plans to open the PRIDE spray park by this coming weekend. The rest rooms at the spray park will remain closed, however.
• The two owners of the property at 2211 Ave. D were given until June 15 to clean up that property and rid it of the bats and opossums as per the board of health recommendations. A letter will be sent to the property owners informing them of that decision.
• The owner of the old Otasco building at 2504 Ave E was given until June 15 to repair the roof and clean up inside the fence. A letter will be send to the property owner informing him of that decision.
• The owner of the property at 3006 Ave. F was given until June 15 to remove the inoperative vehicle from the property. If nothing is done by that date, the council will approve a resolution and further action will be taken.
• The owner of the property at 717 28th Street was given until the June 15 council meeting to make progress on cleaning up that property. If no progress is noted by then, the council will approve a resolution and further action will be taken.
• A resolution was approved on the property at 2115 Ave. C to move forward with the removal of the violations found by the city board of health.
