In other business:
• During a board of health update concerning properties listed as being in violation, Mayor Mike Peschka noted he had talked to a contractor about cleaning up the property at 411 28th St. but had not received a bid.
The council approved removing the property at 2508 Ave. F from the board of health listing after it was re-examined and considered complete.
Susan Kriley, city clerk, noted nine additional properties have been reviewed by the board of health.
• Kriley noted she is in the process of finalizing more letters to send to property owners regarding the Abandoned Building Ordinance No. 854.
• Peschka said the north wall of the old Otasco building at 2504 Ave. E continues to deteriorate.
The building — and the liability — are the responsibilities of the city.
“If we get a big wind, I’m hoping not, but it would not surprise me to see a larger chunk of the north wall eventually go out,” he said.
Council member Darcy Hubka-Vopat asked about demolishing the building.
“That’s probably where we are heading,” Peschka said. “We just need to get a hold of a couple of contractors to come in.”
He said perhaps they might have ideas about how to salvage the front portion of the building.
• Approval was given to the final payment request from Joiner Construction in the amount of $12,270.50 for work on the moderate income housing duplexes being built in town. Payment is to be made upon receipt of grant funding from the Kansas Housing Resource Corporation.
• No action was taken after a 15-minute executive session to discuss nonelected personnel (the vacant police chief job).
• No action was taken after a fiveminute executive session to discuss the possible acquisition of real property (a possible island annexation).
• Approval was given to Ordinance 865, a fiber optics franchise ordinance for Verizon Access Transmission Service clarifying the status of an unused fiber optics cable line in town.
• Peschka said the city may be approached from a group seeking to start a day care at Wilson Elementary School to help fund a project. The day care would be utilized by teachers, parents and the community. He noted the project is one of the approved expenditures for the American Rescue Plan Act.
The next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 7 p.m. Monday, April 18, at city hall.
