Wilson offers top cop job to James Reagan
WILSON — The City of Wilson has selected a candidate to be its new police chief.
At Monday’s meeting of the Wilson City Council, approval was given to offer James Reagan the full-time police chief job at a pay rate of $22 per hour.
If he accepts the job, Reagan would succeed Joshua Tipton, who has been full-time then part-time police chief for the past several years. Tipton handed in his resignation to the council Monday, thanking the city and saying he was very grateful for the opportunity to serve the community.
“I do appreciate everything you’ve done for the city,” Mayor Mike Peschka said. “I wish you the best.”
In other business:
• Possible changes to the inoperable vehicle ordinance were given to the council for consideration.
“I think most of them are very valid,” Peschka said.
He asked the council to review them between now and the next council meeting. Once the changes are discussed and solidified, they will be given to City Attorney Theresa Staudinger for review.
• City Superintendent Joe Soukup said the fence and new gates have been installed at the new city burn pile south of town. Soukup said hopefully the burn pile should be going in the next week or so.
• During a discussion about ground cover at the PRIDE Spray Park, Peschka suggested installing “Shoes are Recommended” signs near the areas where equipment is that tend to accumulate the growth of stickers. Those visiting the spray park would then take off their shoes in the spray park area itself.
It was the consensus of the council to let Soukup handle the matter.
The next meeting of the Wilson City Council will be at 6 p.m. Monday, June 5, at city hall.
