Five Bearcat wrestlers placed in their weight brackets in Saturday’s 48th Ellsworth Wrestling Tournament,

“Our athletes wrestled at a very competitive home tournament and came out placing pretty well; facing tough Competition coming from teams of Hoisington and Hill City,” Coach Steve Thorburn said.

“We lost a few matches we shouldn’t have and saw some victories from our freshmen. Our Kids will work on a few things in the practice room and be looking forward to upcoming competition in Abilene this Saturday:’

Overall, the ‘Cats placed sixth out of the 14 teams that competed. Hoisington was first with 169 points; Hill City was second with 136.

4. Teagon Nienke, 106-lbs. senior, 2nd place after win by Fall over Jaden Wald of Russell in second period, win by Fall over Adam Vincent of Lyons in first period and loss by Fall to Carter Underhill of Hill City in first

4. Ian Andalon, 126 lbs. freshman, 3rd Place, after loss by Fall to Joseph Planasky of Cheney in second period, loss by Fall to Ashten Danner of Lyons in second period, and win by Fall over Spencer Kelley of Garden Plain in second period.

+ Eryk Andalon, 145 lbs. senior, 2nd place after loss by fall to Cole Shreiner of Kingman in second period, win by Fall over Slade Johnson of Southeast of Saline in first period, win 5-0 over Helton of Garden Plain, win by Fall over Justin Wilder of Osborne in third period, and win 10-4 over Quentin Boxberger of Hoisington.

+ Brad Vopat, 160 lbs. junior, 4th place, after loss 4-8 to Morris of Hoisington, loss by Fall to Stuhlatz of Garden Plain, win by fall to Elder of Cheney in first period, and win by Fall over Adrion Ontiveros of Kingman in first period.

+ Tyler Romero, 195 lbs. senior, 2nd place after win by fall over O’Halloran of Hesston in second period, win by fall Birzer of Hoisington in first period, win by fall over McGuffey of Cheney in first period, win by fall over Ashbaugh of Hill City, loss by Fall to O’Halloran in third period
