The Ellsworth Bearcats played undoubtedly their highest quality game of the season Friday night against the Kismet-Southwestern Heights Mustangs.

The Mustangs began with possession of the football. The Cats’ defense quickly stepped up and forced a turnover on downs. Just a couple minutes later, Ellsworth added its first points to the board with a 14 yard touchdown run by senior Luke Sharp. Shortly after, the Bearcats scored again with a 23-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Dawson Kratzer.

Dayton Davis’ point after kick was good.

On the Mustangs’ next possession, Ellsworth’s Sharp forced a fumble and ran it 26 yards for a Bearcat touchdown. The PAT was good.

The Bearcat offense was not done yet, though. They ended the first quarter with two more touchdowns. These included a 13 yard pass reception to sophomore Chase Bourbon and a 29-yard run by Kratzer. One of two extra point attempts were successful, ending the quarter with a 33-point lead.

One minute into the second quarter, senior Trey Anderson intercepted the Mustangs’ pass attempt. Soon after, the Bearcats increased their lead with a 4-yard run by senior Tyler Romero, his first touchdown of the season.

In the next possession, Davis ran in the 65-yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion pass to Sharp was good. The first half resulted with a sack by senior Avery Haxton and a second by Kratzer.

The Bearcats came out in the second half as hot as they were before.

On the first drive, senior Eryk Andalon added a touchdown of his own, running it in for 29 yards. Davis’ point after was good.

Following the touchdown, the Mustangs were again unsuccessful, throwing another interception, caught by Kratzer, running it in for the 35-yard pick six.

On the next drive, the Bearcats forced their fourth turnover of the night. Just one minute later, senior Avery Haxton added six more points for the ‘Cats with a 15-yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was good.

The Bearcats attained a 69-0 lead going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter consisted of the Mustangs adding their first points to the board with a touchdown, 2 point conversion, and safety.

The clock then ran out, ending Ellsworth’s season with a 69-10 win and an overall record of 2-6.

The win allowed the seniors to go out on a good note, with their backs turned to the obstacles that were faced this season.
