Track competitor from Ellsworth and Central Plains brought home a dozen first place medals between them following league meets at Beloit and LaCrosse. The Bearcats, who competed

The Bearcats, who competed May 14 at Beloit, finished with top spots for Shaylee Leiker, 100m dash; Katelyn Soukup, high jump; Rylan Ohl, shot put; Kylan Turnipseed, javelin; Luke Sharp, 100m dash; and Trey Anderson, 200m dash.

The Oilers, who competed May 13 at LaCrosse, finished with firsts to Lauren Oeser, javelin; Brynna Hammeke, 200m dash and 400m dash; Tyler Holmes, shot put; and the 4x400m relay team of Brynna Hammeke, Jennah Jeffery, Monia Short and Callie Zink.

The league meets are the last before Friday’s regional qualifying meets for state.

“We had a good meet overall as we try to get focused for the regional meet this upcoming week,” said head Bearcat track coach Nick Rodriguez.

“I had some concerns as we have had some kids really not feeling well early in the week, which impacts our training. We continue to see some kids improve in their events and that is the focus we have right now. A lot of improvement now comes from the kids eating right, getting plenty of sleep and focusing on the mental approach to the sport.

“Things that are out the coaches hands and in the kids.”
