Bearcat golfers take 2nd

MINNEAPOLIS — With four Ellsworth High School golfers placing in the top-10 April 9, the Bearcats easily clinched second place at the Minneapolis Invitational.

Four teams competed in the invitational at the Minneapolis Golf Course.

Sacred Heart, of Salina, captured the title with 374 points, followed by Ellsworth with 399 points.

Other teams competing were Minneapolis and Republic County, which finished in third and fourth respectively.

Ellsworth’s Hayden Rogers took fourth place with 96 points, followed by teammates Avery Haxton, in fifth place with 97 points, and Parker McGowan in sixth place with 102 points.

Other Bearcats participating were Sam Farthing, who took eighth place with 104 points, Dorian Stroede, who placed 19th with 123 points, and Cady Hansen in 25th place with 132 points.

After a solid performance earlier in the week by the Ellsworth High School golf team, the Bearcats had a tough time during Friday’s Sacred Heart Golf Invitational in Salina.

Five teams and 37 individuals competed at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Sacred Heart came out on top with 299 points, followed by another Salina team, St. John Military, in second with 402 team points.

EHS golfer Avery Haxton took seventh place with 86 points. Haxton was the only Bearcat to crack the top-10, scoring 43 points on both the first and back nine holes. Other Ellsworth golfers participating in the tournament were Parker McGowan in 24th place with 113 points, Hayden Rogers in 26th place with 116 points and Dorian Stroede in 37th with 140 points.
