HILLSBORO — Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School Bearcat wrestler Teagon Nienke, a senior, punched his ticket to substate competition by taking third place with a 2-1 record Feb. 12, at the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s 3-2-1-A Regionals in Hillsboro.

Nienke is the only Bearcat headed to substate, which is at noon Saturday, Feb. 20, at Minneapolis. Nienke, who competed in the 106 pound category, lost to Chase Johnson of Minneapolis 5-9 in the first round. He came back in the second round by a fall over A.J. Almanza of Lyons, then won by a fall in the third round against Luke Overton of Halstead.

In other action:

• In the 126 pound division, Bearcat Ian Andalon, a freshman, lost by a fall in the first round to Joser Polansky of Republic County. Andalon then lost by a fall to Tucker Devine of Halstead.

• In the 132 pound division, Bearcat Corbin Urbanek, a freshman, lost by technical fall to Matt Swingle of Kingman, then lost by a fall to Tristan Thompson of Beloit. Urbanek then lost by a fall in the third round to David Diaz of Anthony.

• In the 145 pound division, Bearcat Eryk Andalon, a senior, lost by a fall in the first round to Colby Schreiner of Kingman. He then won by a fall over Ryan Stocker of Smith Center, lost 0-2 to Austin Wolff of Minneapolis and lost by a fall to Gunner Couture of Republic County.

• In the 152 pound division, Loden West, a freshman, lost by a fall to Mac Camber of Southeast of Saline. He then won by a fall over Raiden Gilley of Beloit, lost by a technical fall to Jeb Novak of Garden Plain and won by a fall over Hunter Reynolds of Republic County.

• In the 160 pound division, Brad Vopat, a junior, lost by a fall to Carter Hiebert of Halstead. He then won by a fall over Adrian Ontiveros of Kingman, lost by a fall to Nathan Nrabe of Smith Center, and lost by a fall to Francis Stuhlsatz of Garden Plain.

• In the 195 pound division, Bearcat Tyler Romero, a senior, lost 5-6 to Braden Burks of Beloit, then lost 7-9 to Eli Frankin of Smith Center. Romero lost in the third round by a fall to Kaleb Wise of Halstead.
