Ellsworth recognized its seniors Thursday, Jan. 30, during a meet against Beloit at home.

Morgan Kelley, Brendan Tripp, and Tyler Walford were recognized along with their parents and siblings.

The night’s final score was 52 to 24 in Beloit’s favor.

Bearcat freshman Cameron DeCouteau started the night off with an exhibition match he lost by fall.

In other action, Ellsworth’s Teagon Nienke won over Cooper Adams 6-0; James Stalnaker over Jacob Berry 6-0; Tyler Romero over Braden Burks 6-0; and Brendan Tripp over Cameron Konkel 6-0, all by fall.

The Trojans took home six wins by default.

Jacob Keller lost 10-1 to Ayden Loomis and Morgan Kelley to Tate Kadel by fall. Ellsworth’s Tyler Walford lost to Creighton Johnson 0-6 in overtime with 6:58 on the clock.

Cardinal Classic

The Ellsworth wrestling team also visited Hoisington Friday, Jan. 31, for the Cardinal Classic. The ‘Cats brought home 20 wins.

Bearcat Tyler Romero placed 2nd with four wins by fall and one loss by fall.

Brendan Tripp took 2nd place as well with three wins — two by fall and one by injury. Tripp’s loss was by fall.

Tyler Walford also brought home a 2nd place with four wins, all by fall, and one loss in overtime 3-1.

Ellsworth’s Teagon Nienke, James Stalnaker and Morgan Kelley all placed third in their weight categories.

Nienke pulled off three wins, all by fall, and two loses by fall. Stalnaker had two wins and two loses all by fall. Kelley brought home three wins; by fall, 8-2, and 5-0. Cameron DeCouteau brought home 6th place with one win and three loses.
