Bearcats baseball team bests Lincoln/Sylvan/Lucas team

LINCOLN — The Ellsworth High School Bearcats Varsity Baseball Team won a pair on the road April 26 against the combined team of Lincoln/Sylvan/ Lucas.

In the first game, Ellsworth won 18-1, thanks to four hits from Dayton Davis. Davis doubled in the first, tripled in the second, homered in the third and doubled in the fourth.

The Bearcats got things moving in the first inning when Davis doubled on an 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Ellsworth tallied six runs in the fourth inning. The rally was led with singles from Ben Hipp and Will Cravens, a home run by Cravens and an effort on a ball out in play by Wyatt Bohnen.

Lane Rolfs got the win for the Bearcats. The left hander pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six.

The Bearcats hit two home runs on the day. Davis slammed one in the third inning, followed by Cravens in the fourth.

The Bearcats racked up 10 hits on the day, with Davis, Hipp and Cravens each racking up multiple hits.

The Second Game

The Bearcats won the second game against Lincoln/Sylvan/ Lucas by a score of 13-1.

Ellsworth got the scoring started in the first inning when Davis homered on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Bearcats put up six runs in the second, led by offense from Cole Webber, Bohnen, Layton Leiker and Cade Gwinner. Each drove in runs during the inning.

Gwinner earned the win for the Bearcats. He allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking one.

The Bearcats collected 13 hits, with Rolfs, Webber, Hipp, Bohnen and Leiker all contributing.

Ellsworth did not commit a single error in the field during the game.
