BELOIT — The Ellsworth Bearcats traveled to Beloit to face the Trojans last Friday night. The ‘Cats came up short with a 48-20 loss. The Bearcat offense showed development throughout the game.

Beloit began with possession of the football. After a 10 minute drive, the Trojans were the first to score with a 1 yard touchdown run and successfully ran it in for the two point conversion. Shortly after that, the Trojans intercepted senior Dawson Kratzer’s pass and later scored with a 2 yard touchdown run and fortunate extra point attempt. The touchdown gave Beloit a 16-0 lead to end the first quarter.

Ellsworth began with possession in the second quarter. They were quickly stopped and were forced a turnover on downs. The Trojan offense responded with another touchdown. The 8 yard touchdown run gave the Trojans a 22 point lead. Beloit was not done yet, though. They added another eight points to the scoreboard with a 5-yard touchdown run. Shortly after that, the Bearcats added their first points with a 45 yard run by senior Luke Sharp. The 2-point conversion was no good, making the score 32-6 going into halftime.

The ‘Cats came out in the second half with a new quarterback of the field: freshman Will Cravens. Ellsworth’s first possession was stopped short and Beloit quickly followed with another touchdown and 2 point conversion. After that, the ‘Cats were eager to score. Cravens’ 57 yard touchdown pass to senior Trey Anderson was good to make the score 40-12. The Trojans did not let the Bearcats have their excitement for long, however, and they responded with a 7 yard touchdown run and successful points after.

The fourth quarter was filled with many defensive stops. The game ended with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Cravens to Anderson, making the final score 48-20. Anderson had 6 catches on the night for a total of 122 yards gained. The loss gave the ‘Cats an 0-3 record.

Ellsworth comes back home on Friday to face the Norton Bluejays. Norton is 3-1 on the season. Homecoming festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
