Bearcats, Oilers shine at state track
WICHITA — Track and Field team members from both Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School and Central Plains Junior-Senior High School did well May 27 and 28 during the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s state track and field meet in Wichita.
Central Plains’ Lauren Oeser placed second in the javelin with a throw of 132’, 06”, while Lady Bearcat Kaylin Turnipseed placed sixth with a throw of 123’, 10”.
In addition, Oiler Cole Lamatsch placed fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.73, and fifth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:41.92.
According to Nick Rodriguez, the Bearcat’s Track and Field coach, conditions during the meet were moderate, with temperatures in the 70s along with breezy, 20 mile-per-hour winds. Rodriguez said Turnipseed’s throw
Rodriguez said Turnipseed’s throw was her second best of the season. The top eight placers are given the title of All-State Athletes.
“Kylan had a heck of year throwing the Javelin this spring,” Rodriguez said. “She placed all season in every meet and was consistently throwing at or near 118-120 feet.
Overall, Rodriguez said he was very pleased with Turnipseed’s result and he looks forward to her qualifying next year and improving on her podium finish.
