Central Plains volleyball goes to state

Ellsworth and Wilson both fall in sub-state play

CLAFLIN — The Central Plains Junior-Senior High School Lady Oilers are headed to State after beating Otis-Bison at home Saturday in the finals of the Class 1A Division substate tournament in Claflin.

The Lady Oilers were the No. 1 seed in the tournament. They received a bye during the first match.

In the second match, Central Plains defeated the Lady Dragons of Wilson High School 25-13 and 25-10.

Wilson beat Chase in three (22-25, 25-15, 25-16) in the first round before losing to Central Plains in the semifinals. The Lady Dragons end the season with a 5-30 record.

With a 30-8 record, Central Plains will compete in the Class 1A Division 2 state volleyball championship Friday, Oct. 29, at White Auditorium in Emporia.

The Lady Oilers are seeded No. 3 in the state tournament. They play at 10 a.m. on Court B against Dighton, the No. 6 seed. At 12 noon, Central Plains plays the No. 7 seed Lost Springs-Centre.

The semi-finals and finals will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at White Auditorium.

Ellsworth falls to Phillipsburg

The No. 6 seeded Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School Lady Bearcats volleyball team fell to the No. 3 seed Phillipsburg Lady Panthers Saturday, during the Class 3A sub-state tournament in Russell.

Ellsworth lost both matches 16-25, 15-25.

Leading the Ellsworth squad were:

• Kills — Greta Klein, 6.

• Assists — Kylan Turnipseed, 10.

• Aces — Ednah Nichols, 2.

• Digs — Peyton Coonrod, 6; Kylan Turnipseed, 5.
