The Bearcats girls’ and boys’ track teams had the opportunity to compete in front of a hometown crowd this past week during the annual Ellsworth Invitational. In only the third track meet of the season, Ellsworth had several strong performances, including a first-place finish on the boys’ team from Josiah Bolton in 1600-meter run. On the girls’ team, Shaylee Leiker took first in the 400-meter dash, Joni Schroeder took the gold in the 1600-meter run and Lakyn Tenbrink in the high jump. The Central Plains Oilers also competed in the tournament with several athletes improving on the season. Of the 12 teams competing on the boys’ side, Hoisington won the title with 99 points. Thomas More Prep-Marian took second with 89 points, and Pratt clinched third with 87 points. Ellsworth finished in seventh place with 38 points, followed by Central Plains in 12th. Team scores were not available for the girls’ teams.
