The Lady Bearcats posted a perfect week Friday when they defeated the Lady Leopards of Lincoln, 38-22, in a non-conference game at Lincoln.

The boys also ended the week in the win column with a victory over Lincoln, 68-25.

Lincoln actually outscored the Lady ‘Cats in the second and third quarters, 4-2 and 15-11, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Ellsworth’s performances in the first and fourth quarters, 13-3 and 12-0.

The Lady ‘Cats outperformed Lincoln in steals — 17 to 8 and field goal percentage, 38 to 16

Natalie Rolfs led the Lady ‘Cats in scoring with 12 points including one 3-pointer. Also in double digits were Greta Klein and Rylan Ohl, with 10 points apiece. Noah Goss contributed 2 points and Kylan Turnipseed dropped 4 points into the basket.

The boys also dominated Lincoln with 12 to 3 steals and a field goal percentage of 46 percent to 25 percent.

Ellsworth vs. Minneapolis

Avery Haxton contributed 22 points and teammate Braden Schulte chipped in 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Minneapolis Thursday, Feb. 18, at Minneapolis. The Lions defeated the ‘Cats 64-48 during a contest that seemed to be settled in the third quarter, when Minneapolis nailed four, 3-pointers to end the period.

Haxton worked to keep the ‘Cats in the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Lions led 49-39 headed into the fourth quarter.

Neither team scored much in the early minutes of the final period. It was an opportunity for Ellsworth, which pulled within 6 points of Minneapolis with 3:28 minutes on the clock.

The Lions refused to be denied, however, and Ellsworth fell for the second time this season to Minneapolis.

Ellsworth finishes its 2020-21 regular season this week with the girls playing Beloit Monday night and both the boys and girls team set to host Salina’s Sacred Heart Knights Tuesday night.
