Hard work is hallmark of Oiler track teams
Potential is the name of the game for this year’s Central Plains’ track teams.
“We had a young girls’ team last season overall and return all of them, along with gaining some more freshmen,” said Dustin Robison, who is in his eighth season as Oiler head coach.
“We are excited to see this group grow and develop. The whole group has a lot of potential and we look for our three seniors and three juniors to be strong leaders.”
The boys also return a young squad, including only one senior and one junior. The team has seven sophomores.
“We are going to expect big things from them,” Robison said.
“I feel like I say the same thing every year. As a coaching staff, we just expect these kids to show up ready to go to work and make themselves better every day. Medals are great but we are here to get better.”
He said Central Plains is in a competitive league; however, there is more to success than winning.
“For me, success in life isn’t measured by how much money you make or how many trophies you win. It’s about building character and pushing yourself even though you may not see instant gratification. Working harder for everything you have — even if you only see a little improvement. Not taking days or seasons off. That is how I judge being successful,” Robison said.
