Lady ‘Cats finish 4th in junior varsity tournament

The Ellsworth High School Lady Bearcats finished 4th Aug. 27 in the Junior Varsity Invitational Tennis Tournament.

Ellsworth’ s No. 1 singles player Calli Sheridan placed first against Phillipsburg’s Makenna Russom.

Lady Bearcat Stormy Thompson placed third in No 2 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Sami Couch and Bekah Vague placed sixth, ending the tournament with a win against Hoisington’s Emilee Baze and Cheyenne Martinz, and a loss to Lindsborg’s Smoky Valley.

Sixth place also was captured by Ellsworth’s No. 2 tennis team of Emma Salyers and Shylo Travnichek.

Ellsworth finished the tournament with 41 points.

Phillipsburg took first place with 56 points, followed by Beloit, also with 56 points. The top team tiebreaker was based on games won vs. games played.

Salina’s Sacred Heart placed third with 43 points, followed by Ellsworth, Smoky Valley (27 points), Salina South (25 points), Hoisington (16 points) and Pratt (10 points).

The Ellsworth Varsity Invitational started at 3 p.m. Tuesday with Ellsworth, Central Plains, Concordia, Ellinwood, Lyons, Smoky Valley, Trinity Catholic and Wakeeney-Trego Community.
