Ellsworth competes at Hoisington tournament

Ellsworth’s Lady ‘Cats slipped by Hoisington Jan. 25 at the Winter Jam tournament hosted by Hoisington with a point to spare. The final score was 46-45.

Jaide Talbott, Natalie Rolfs, and Lakyn Tenbrink started the first quarter with 6 points. Talbott scored half of those with a 2-point shot and a free throw. At the end of first quarter, the Lady Bearcats were down by 7 points, 13-6.

The Lady ‘Cats were still behind — this time by 4 points, 25-29, at the end of the first half.

Tenbrink took the lead in the second quarter with 6 points followed by Savannah Hellebust with 5 points. In the third quarter, Ellsworth scored 11 points, putting the Lady ‘Cats ahead 36-35.

Keeping up in the last quarter both Hoisington and Ellsworth scored 10 points. Tenbrink lead the board with 4 points followed by Brenna Pruitt, 3; Maggie Windholz, Kenzie Stroede, and Lakyn Tenbrink, all with 1 point each from free throws.

Two time outs were called during the last quarter leaving a win for the Lady ‘Cats.

Ellsworth vs. Otis-Bison

The Otis-Bison game played Jan. 23, didn’t end the game as well for the Lady ‘Cats with a 18-35 final score.

Otis-Bison took the tournament title for the first time, defeating Ellinwood, 49-16.

Lakyn Tenbrink was the only Lady ‘Cat to put Ellsworth on the board in the first quarter with 2 points. Maddie Wiltse of Otis-Bison was also the only scorer for the first quarter with 4 points.

Tenbrink put 4 more points on the board for her team in the 2nd quarter. A 30-second time out was called with 55 seconds left on the clock leaving the Bearcats down by 14 points.

Third quarter added only 3 more points on the board scored by Savannah Hellebust with a 3-point shot. Otis called a 30 second time out with 2:05 left on the clock.

Jaide Talbott took over the fourth quarter putting 7 points on the board. Eleven total fouls were called in the second half. All of the free throws shot during the second half hit their mark.

Tenbrink was named to the All-Tournament team.

Bearcats next game is Friday, Jan. 31, at home against Southeast of Saline.
