Lady ‘Cats lose squeaker at Inman

With only a few minutes left in Monday night’s substate game between Ellsworth and Inman, the two teams were tied after a game filled with ups and downs.

Despite a great game that saw Ellsworth ahead much of the night, the Lady ‘Cats lost 40-45 and ended their 2019-20 season with an overall win-loss record of 5-16.

Monday night’s game against the Lady Teutons was played at Inman.

The boys’ team played Tuesday night at Sterling. Game results were not available by press time.

Ellsworth’s Lakyn Tenbrink and Jaide Talbott started off the first quarter splitting 12 points evenly. Talbott sank two 3-point shots and Tenbrink made three, 2-point baskets. A 30-second timeout was called with 1:06 left on the clock. The Bearcats were up by 3 at the end of the first with a score of 12-9.

Tenbrink and Talbott continued scoring in the second quarter. Joining them with a 3-pointer was Natalie Rolfs. Talbott was the high scorer for this quarter putting 7 points on the board for the ‘Cats. Tenbrink made 2 points. Inman called a timeout with 4:09 on the clock. This put the Lady ‘Cats up by 4 points at end of first half with a 24-20 score.

In the third quarter, Ellsworth’s Brenna Pruitt made her appearance on the score board with a 3-point shot. Tenbrink sank two free throws and Talbott made one basket. Inman called another 30-second timeout with 5:54 on the clock. Both teams were tied 31-31 at the end of third quarter.

Tenbrink and Talbott continued making points for ‘Cats in the fourth. Tenbrink made one basket and a freethrow. Talbott sank six free-throws. In the first few minutes of the quarter, Brenna Pruitt suffered an injury and left the game. Inman called three full timeouts during the last quarter and Ellsworth called two full timeouts and a 30 second time out. Despite the ‘Cats scoring 9 points in the final quarter it left Ellsworth down by 5 points to Inman at the end of the game. At. the sound of the buzzer, the score was 45-40.

Only four girls scored points during this game. Jaide Talbott was at the top with 21 points with three 3-pointers, three, 2-point baskets and six freethrows. Lakyn Tenbrink scored 13 points with five baskets and three free throws. Brenna Pruitt and Natalie Rolfs both made 3 points with a 3-pointer each. Rolfs sunk her 3 pointer in the second quarter while Pruitt made hers in the third. Four team fouls were made in the first half and 12 in the last half.
