The Ellsworth Lady Bearcats varsity volleyball team fell to 7-7 overall for the season Sept. 19, after being defeated in action at Little River.

Little River beat Ellsworth in all three matches, 23-25, 21-25 and 22-25.

Leading the varsity for Ellsworth was Shaylee Leiker with 11 kills and Lakyn Tenbrink with eight kills. Savannah Hellebust had 18 assists, followed by Jordi Thornton with seven. Tenbrink also had two stuff blocks, with Hellebust having five ace serves, followed by Leiker with two ace serves.

Tenbrink had nine digs, Leiker, seven and Natalie Rolfs, five digs.

It was a mixed bag for the Lady ‘Cats junior varsity squad. Ellsworth won the first match with Little River, 25-17, but lost the second two matches, 22-25 and 14-16.

Earlier in the week, the Lady ‘Cats varsity team had mixed results Sept. 17 at Sacred Heart.

In the first round, Ellsworth won both matches, 26-24, and 25-22. In the second round, Ellsworth won the first match, 25-18, lost the second match, 10-25, but rallied to win the third match, 25-15.

It was also a mixed bag for the junior varsity. The Lady ‘Cats lost the first match of the first round, 13-25, but rallied to win the second match, 25-22, only to lose the third match, 8-15. In the second round, Ellsworth won the first match, 25-22, and lost the second match, 18-25.

The Lady ‘Cat’s C team was dominated by Little River, falling in both games of the first round, 17-25, and 15-25, as well as both games in the second round, 16-25, and 22-15.
