Lady ‘Cats wreck Little River early on

EHS baseball team splits double header with Little River

The Ellsworth Lady ‘Cats softball team couldn’t seem to do anything wrong Friday, April 23, as they buried Little River in a non-conference double header.

In the second game, Emma Moore threw a shutout to lead the Lady ‘Cats past Little River 19-0.

Ellsworth sealed the victory after 12 runs in the second inning, including singles by Nicole Haase and Elizabeth Hipp, an error on a ball put in play by Haase and Natalie Rolfs, a walk by Moore, triples by Greta Klein, Hipp, and Klein.

Haase, Hipp, Klein, Haase, Moore and Rolfs, all drove in runs in the inning.

The huge second inning was supported by four runs in the first and three in the third.

Righthander Moore took the win for Ellsworth, surrendering zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out four.

B DeBaere took the loss for Little River. The hurler went three innings, allowing 19 runs on ten hits and striking out one.

The Lady ‘Cats collected 10 hits on the day. Rolfs, Makenna Haas, and Peyton Coonrod all had two hits

In the first game, Ellsworth’s Elizabeth Hipp drove in four runners to seal the Lady ‘Cats 29-3 victory over Little River.

Ellsworth earned the victory despite allowing Little River to score three runs in the third inning.

The Lady ‘Cats put up 12 runs in the third inning. The inning’s big plays included walks by Stormy Thompson and Paityn Tenbrink, by Hipp and Greta Klein, an error on a ball put in play by Peyton Coonrod and Nicole Haase, a single by Macey Gustin, and a double by Hipp.

Hipp took the win for Ellsworth. The righthander allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Callie Sheridan threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Ellsworth Lady Bearcats Varsity tallied eight hits on the day. Gustin, Hipp, and Natalie Rolfs each collected multiple hits.

In the first baseball game of the day, Jaxson Stefek led the Bearcats, picking up four hits over four at bats on his team’s way to a 6-3 win over Little River. Stefek singled in the first, doubled in the second, singled in the fourth, and in the seventh.

The ‘Cats got things moving in the first inning, when Dayton Davis’ fly scored one run for Ellsworth.

Lane Rolfs earned the win for the Bearcats. Rolfs went four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three. Braden Schulte threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Schulte recorded the last seven outs to earn the save.

Graham Stephens took the loss for Little River. The hurler surrendered four runs on five hits over two innings, striking out one and walking zero.

Ellsworth racked up 11 hits on the day. Stefek, who went four for four, and Layton Leiker both collected multiple hits for Ellsworth. Ellsworth didn’t commit a single error in the field.

In the first game of the double header, Ellsworth lost to Little River on the final play of the game.

The game was tied at two with Little River batting in the bottom of the seventh when Jayden Garrison doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Little River pitchers struck out four, while Ellsworth sat down 11.

Ellsworth got things started in the first inning. Lane Rolfs drove in one with a double.

Graham Stephens led the Little River to victory on the pitcher’s mound. Stephens went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

Braden Schulte took the loss for Ellsworth. The righthanded hurler allowed one run on two hits and walked zero.

Dayton Davis started the game for Ellsworth. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out 11 and walking one

Cole Webber, Jaxson Stefek, Davis, Rolfs, and Schulte each collected one hit to lead the Bearcats.
