Lady Oilers are 1A State volleyball champs
CLAFLIN — There is joy in Oilers Nation as the Central Plains Junior-Senior High School Lady Oilers Volleyball Team won the 1A State Volleyball Championship Tournament Saturday in Dodge City.
“I am so proud of the girls down this final stretch of our season,” said head coach Lisa Crites.“We played a tough schedule and all of those matches contributed to developing a tough mind set and an even tougher will to win.”
Crites said the seniors led the team with energy and intensity.
“All of the girls fought to keep the ball in play and for the momentum to stay on our side,” she said.“We couldn’t have imagined a better or more complete ending to this season. What a fantastic finish for such an amazing group of girls who are so very special.”
The Lady Oilers played three matches in pool play Friday.
In the first match against Chetopa, Central Plains won 25-11, 25-13.
In the second match against Cunningham, Central Plains won 25-17, 25-23.
In the third match against Clifton-Clyde, the Lady Oilers won 25-21, 25-12.
In Saturday’s semi-finals against Minneola, Central Plains won 25-17, 25-12. The Lady Oilers had four aces in the game, led by Lexi Oeser with four. Central Plains had a total of 28 kill shots in the game, led by Addison Crites with nine, Kassidy Nixon with six, and Shaylah Kempke with five.
Of the six total blocks made by Central Plains, Crites had two solo and one assisted block, while Ryenne Cunningham had one solo and two assisted blocks.
Central Plains had a total of 43 digs against Minneola, with Rachel Lamatsch leading with 16.
In Saturday’s championship match against Rural Vista, Central Plains lost the first game, 22-25, but bounced back to win the next two 25-22 and 26-24.
The team had a total of six aces in the championship game, with Oeser leading the way with three.
Central Plains had a total of 42 kill shots in the game, led by Crites with 19, followed by Nixon and Oeser each with nine.
The Lady Oilers had six blocks during the match, with Crites having two solo and one assisted block, followed by Rebecca Stratmann with one solo and two assisted blocks.
Finally, Central Plains had a total of 80 digs during the match, with Crites leading the way with 27, followed by Lamatsch with 18.
With the championship win, the Lady Oilers finish the season with a 34-11 record.
