RUSSELL — The Central Plains Lady Oilers basketball team defeated the Russell Lady Broncos 66-21 Saturday, in the championship game of the 2021 Amos Morris Classic basketball tournament at Russell.

Brynna Hammeke led the scoring for the Lady O’s with 33 points. She was followed by Kassidy Nixon with 10, Marilyn Soeken with 8, Kyla Metro with 7, Reese McGuire with 6 and Madison McGuire with 2. On Dec. 7, the Lady Oilers defeated

On Dec. 7, the Lady Oilers defeated Smith Center 61-57, in first round play. On Dec. 10, the Lady Oilers defeated Phillipsburg 56-53 in the semi-finals.

The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team took seventh place Saturday by defeating the Central Plains High School Oilers squad 61-35.

On Dec 6, in first round play, the Bearcats lost to Russell 60-47.

On Dec. 9, Ellsworth lost to St. John’s Tipton 53-42.

The boys’ championship was taken by Phillipsburg, which squeezed by Russell, 41-40.

Central Plains Boys

The Central Plains High School Oilers boys basketball team finished in eight place in the tournament after being defeated by the Bearcats.

On Dec. 7, the Oilers lost to Smith Center, 60-39, in first round play.

On Dec. 10 in the semi-finals, the Oilers lost to Ulysses, 69-27.

Ellsworth Lady Bearcats

The Ellsworth High School Lady Bearcats basketball team finished sixth overall in the tournament. In the Dec. 11 finals, they lost to Smith Center, 72-39.
