The Central Plains Junior-Senior High School Lady Oilers Volleyball Team did not three-peat this past weekend as hoped, after winning the state championship the past two years.

The Lady Oilers squad, which was the No. 3 seed going into the 2021 Class 1A Division 2 State Volleyball Tournament Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 at White Auditorium in Emporia, was defeated by No. 1 seed Hanover Oct. 29 in their third pool play match of the day, 25-19, 25-20.

Before going down against Hanover, Central Plains won in pool play matches against No. 6 seed Dighton, 25-12, 25-20, and No. 7 seed Lost Springs-Centre, 25-19, 25-20.

On Oct. 30, during semi-final play, the Lady Oilers defeated the No. 5 seed Hutchinson-Central Christian, 25-19, 26-24 to claim third place in the state tournament.

The final results of the 2021 Class 1A Division 2 state volleyball tournament were: Hanover, first; Lebo, (the No. 1 seed) second; Central Plains, third; and Hutchinson-Central Christian, fourth.
