Oiler girls add another tournament win
The No. 1 ranked Central Plains Lady Oilers ended this past week’s St. John Midwinter Classic Saturday with three players in double digits and another title to their record.
Central Plains rolled to the championship with a score of 64-40 over tournament host St. John. The win followed other victories — 57-40 Monday over Reno County and 69-25 Thursday over Larned.
High scorer for the Lady Oilers in the championship game was Brynna Hammeke with 19 points. She was followed by Jennah Jeffrey, 18 points; and Lexi Oeser, 11.
Oeser also had three, 3-pointers; Jeffrey had two; and Kassidy Nixon contributed a single 3-pointer and six assists. In all, Nixon had 5 points and six assists. Also on the scoreboard were Lauren Oeser, 6 points; Monica Short, 4; and Callie Zink, 1.
Boys
It was a long week for the Central Plains boys’ basketball team as the Oilers dropped two games in the St. John Midwinter Classic at St. John.
They were defeated in the first night of competition Monday by Larned, 69-31. Their second loss came Friday against Macksville, 56-51.
Central Plains was set to play Hesston at Hesston Tuesday night; however, results were unavailable at press time.
